Access Control Installation in Wigan & the North West

From video intercoms and keypad entry to fob systems and smartphone-controlled access — MPW installs fully integrated access control solutions for homes and businesses.

Control Who Enters Your Property — Simply & Securely

Access control gives you complete authority over who can enter your property and when. Whether you want to see and speak to a visitor before opening your gate, restrict access to certain areas of a commercial building, or manage multiple users with different access rights, MPW Electrical Security design and install the right system for your requirements across Wigan and the North West.

Our access control installations span the full range of technologies available — from simple audio intercoms and PIN keypads through to video intercoms with colour screens, proximity fob readers, Bluetooth smartphone entry, and full commercial access control platforms such as Paxton Net2. For residential properties, we most commonly install video intercoms paired with automated gates, allowing you to see and verify a visitor on a screen inside your home (or via a smartphone app) before remotely releasing the gate. For business premises, we install multi-door systems with individual user credentials, access logging and time-restricted zones. Videx intercom systems and Paxton access control are our primary product lines, offering excellent reliability and feature-rich management software.

Access control integrates naturally with our other services. Pair it with automated gates for a complete entry solution, combine it with CCTV to record entry and exit events, and link it to your alarm system for a fully joined-up security setup. Every installation is designed specifically for your property and configured to your needs — we handle everything from cabling and installation to programming and user training.

Access Control Solutions for Every Situation

From a simple home intercom to a multi-site commercial access control platform — we have the experience and product range to suit any requirement.

Video Intercoms

A video intercom lets you see and speak to visitors before granting entry — providing both security and convenience. We install colour video intercoms with high-resolution cameras at the entrance, connected to a screen inside the property or linked via app to your smartphone, so you can manage visitors from anywhere. When paired with automated gates or an electric door strike, you can release the gate or door remotely with a single button press. Systems can be expanded to include multiple internal screens, ideal for larger homes or apartment blocks, and footage from the door camera can be recorded to your CCTV system for a complete audit trail.

Keypad & Fob Systems

Keypad and proximity fob entry systems are a practical and cost-effective solution for controlling vehicle and pedestrian access. PIN keypads allow entry via a personal code — ideal where individual access records are useful, as different codes can be assigned to different users. Proximity fob readers grant access when a valid fob or card is presented — fast, convenient and easy to manage, with lost fobs instantly deactivated from the system. Combined keypad/reader units offer both options. These systems are commonly used for residential developments, gated communities, commercial car parks and business entrances, and integrate directly with automated gate and barrier systems.

Commercial Access Control

For businesses with multiple doors, multiple users or complex access requirements, we install Paxton Net2 commercial access control systems. Paxton is the UK market leader in commercial access control, with a software platform that allows you to manage hundreds of users and dozens of doors from a central PC or via the cloud. Set time-restricted access for cleaning staff, grant visitors temporary credentials, pull an access report to see who entered which door and when, and integrate with your fire alarm system for automatic door release on activation. Paxton systems are scalable from a single door to large multi-site installations.

Access Control — Frequently Asked Questions

In the vast majority of cases, yes. Most automated gate motors include an input for an external access control device — when the access device is triggered (whether by a keypad, fob reader, intercom, or app), it sends a signal to the gate motor to open. This works with all major gate brands including CAME, BFT and FAAC. If you already have automated gates and just want to add a video intercom or keypad, we can usually integrate this without replacing the gate motor or control board.

An audio intercom lets you speak to a visitor at your entrance point but doesn't show you a picture of who's there. A video intercom adds a camera at the entry point, showing a live image of the visitor on a screen inside the property or on your smartphone. For security purposes, video is strongly preferred — it allows you to visually verify who is calling before deciding whether to grant entry, and modern systems can record door camera footage to your CCTV recorder for a complete entry log. The cost difference between audio and video is relatively modest, so we almost always recommend video.

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of a commercial access control system such as Paxton Net2. Each user is given their own credential (fob, card, PIN or biometric), and through the management software you can specify exactly which doors they can access and at what times. A delivery driver might have access to a loading bay only during business hours; a manager might have full 24/7 access to all areas; a temporary contractor can be given a credential that automatically expires after a set date. Access logs mean you can always see a full record of who entered where and when.

Yes. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems use a specialist camera to read vehicle registration plates, allowing a gate or barrier to open automatically when a registered vehicle approaches — without the driver needing to press a button or present a fob. ANPR is ideal for residential developments where residents want a hands-free experience, and for commercial car parks where you want to manage which vehicles can enter. Unregistered plates are denied entry and can trigger an alert or CCTV recording. We install and configure ANPR systems across the North West.
